as 1958 we once had his name on the programme and an entry form from him but we are still waiting.

S. Africa is sure to be represented. Ray Morris, who was runner-up in Class 2 Professional, tells me he is definitely trying again and so is an old friend, Achilles Kallos, who last entered about 1954. Reg Park is again running his Mr. Republic of S. Africa contests and sending us the winners.

Israel are again competing and so is Syria. I expect a better entry than ever.

Bill Pearl. Many people have asked me what the hopes of having Bill are for this year's Universe and if the fund is still open.

The fund was not touched last year and stood at around £60 and that is a long way from the target of £500 to have Bill and his wife over, which is his stipulation. Even with N.A.B.B.A.'s contribution it is far off the target.

Bill is meantime visiting S. Africa to do some shows for Reg Park, but unfortunately these will be before the Universe so there is little possibility of his being able to drop off on his way back as Joe Abbenda did last year on his way back from S. Africa. It may be even harder for Bill to leave his business after a three weeks visit to S. Africa but, of course, I am exploring all possibilities as Bill is anxious to visit us again provided we can meet his wishes.

Bill gave me some details of his wonderful club in California with 6,000 feet floor space and facing the ocean. I am hoping for some pictures so you can see for yourselves.

Franklin Page, U.S.A., who has attended several of our Universe contests during the past ten years or more, has been an H. & S. contributor, tells me that he recently visited Jack Delinger at his new home in Orinda, California, and he

has this to say about Jack: "There is no doubt that Jack remains one of the greatest of all time and a man for whose personality and character I can find no equal. His physique still seems to be the most nearly perfect I have seen and his proportions are unmatched in classic beauty. Jack has been very busy making a change of location in his business and moving into a new house in the mountains behind Oakland."

But, unfortunately, it seems Franklin did not have his camera with him so we could see some new pictures of Jack.

Many of his friends have been asking what has become of Ray Garnett, former Mr. S.E. Britain and fourth in the Britain final not long ago. Ray had a bad back injury and has been struggling for over a year to get it right. He has had to have hospital treatment but has just started light training again.

However, we will not be seeing him for a while as he was recently married and he and his wife will be in Vancouver, Canada, before this is in print, but they hope only for about a year. Ray hopes to get fit in the next year and return to contests on his return from Canada. Our good wishes go to Ray and his wife and we hope to see him back better than ever.

New Zealand. David Evans, of Auckland, sends me the results and pictures printed elsewhere of the recent Mr. Auckland contest sponsored by the Silhouette Health Studios. There were two height classes but I was not told the name of the overall winner. Class 2 was won by Ron Tanner, who is 44, and second was Tony Duzevich. David himself competed in Class 1. He tells me that Clive Green, who entered the Professional Universe three years ago and took third place in Class 2, is in great shape.
